“A View of Seoul”
Acrylic on Canvas – August 2016
Quite often when I paint I find myself thinking about my life and the time I spent in South Korea. While I only lived in Seoul for a week, it was a special place that I would frequently visit. This painting reflects an idealism that doesn’t necessarily exist in Seoul, but I wanted to capture the colorful vibrancy that is traditional Korean painting in with the more modern industrial Seoul. The foreground is simpler and looks like a park, which I felt would portray the active movement of one hiking combined with a moment of reflection. Also the simplicity brings about a picturesque imagery of Seoul and a desire to be in the midst of the brilliance or at least admire it.
