Acrylic on Canvas – June 2015
I created this piece in an attempt to do a self-portrait that describes how I currently see myself. A large majority of my self portraits have a grey background so I tried to keep that theme running. This one also has a definite blue theme, but rather than being “blue” with sadness it’s more of a calm, serene and at peace blue. Actually in completing this one I was immediately reminded of the many buddha’s I saw overseas when I lived in Asia. There’s something about the tranquil nature of the picture, the curves in the face that remind me of those buddhas. In reality, I was at a really good place internally when I painted this. I feel like much of my young life has been turbulent and tumultuous and that though life does throw curve balls and try to keep us off balance, I believe I’ve been more balanced and happier than I may have ever been in life. A part of that is finally getting to the point in my life where I feel like I can embrace me for myself and love who I am. That’s not an easy thing to do for any of us. Goodness knows there’s nothing much more powerful than a confident woman who knows herself! Speaking of which – ladies, learn to love yourself because society is never going to try to encourage it!
