TVN’s Flower Boy series have been really popular so far, and generally speaking have been hits. So, it’s not a surprise to me that Cyrano Dating Agency is good. I kind of expect that.

I am also pleasantly surprised that while it’s still completely fictitious, it’s over the to in a fun way that I can see this being entertaining for multiple episodes. So many of the dramas that have come out within the last year are historical or melodramas, and I’m so pleased that this one is much more light-hearted and has comedy elements. But, it’s still a romance.

I think for me the one thing that has been a surprise is that Choi Soo Young had the lead role. I’ve never seen her as a lead in a drama before and while they totally need to get this girl a new wig (it’s terrible!), she’s actually holding her own in this drama. Her expressions at the various moments are on point without being too dramatic, and she might just be the most believable character in the drama if for no other reason than she’s a girl who believes in love and is trying to expand her thinking about dating. There also comes a point in every girls mind where love goes from being a fairy tale to something that you have to work at, and that there is no special formula to make it happen.

Also, her flirting with ‘The Master’ is also pretty cute in episode one. (don’t say you didn’t notice!) That guy has some charm!

Can I also just say that Lee Jung Hyuk is totally making his comeback happen! He really placed himself squarely on the map with his two-timing role in ‘A Gentleman’s Dignity’ and he is continuing that hype with his role in Cyrano. He’s got the comic relief when the mafia is after him, all the while exhibiting a complete and utter suaveness that reminds me of some ways of a more attractive Gil Grissom from CSI. Even though he’s a bit old for a Flower Boy, you can’t help but be interested and drawn to his character.

Round this one off with another couple super cute guys and this makes for a dating agency that I want to infiltrate! Or at least watch the episodes. 😉
