Fuji in Spring

“Fuji in Spring”
Acrylic on Canvas – February 2017
12×24 inches / 30×61 cm

This, I believe is my first “Cherry Blossom painting” of 2017! It was also a painting that revealed what it was going to be as I was painting it and in many cases, I was along for the ride. Regardless, I was enjoying playing with perspectives and dimensionality in nature scenes. I love that it looks straight out of a beautiful anime scene like those that I’ve watched from Miyazaki’s ghibli studios. Which I was definitely influenced by having gone to see both Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke in theaters this winter. It was also painted shortly after the Lunar New Year celebrations which always inspire me to paint something with a more “Asian” theme, and just after we packaged up Lovebirds – so I had to paint another cherry blossom painting to take its place!
