“Gongsaeng Garden”
Acrylic on Canvas – June 2016

The Korean word for fantasy is Gongsaeng and this is my fantasy of a Korean garden. When I paint Korean scenes or incorporate Korean themes I try to let my time, experiences and observations there wash over me as I paint. This painting took heavy influence from various aspects – that Korean skies can sometimes be very smoggy right about now (thanks China!), the blue tiled roof of my old Korean home, the gardens that I had been to over there, and the knowledge of ancient Korean society from dramas and historical site visits. Overall I find this to be a relaxing painting and I hope that it is for you as well.
