Hiya, Happy Thursday!

Today as I write this with a hot cup of coffee, I’m feeling fantastic. Yesterday I decided to take the plunge and publicly declare that I was going to destroy some of my paintings.

This is something I’ve wanted to do for awhile, but I’ve had a lot of apprehension. It’s hard to let go of things, especially something that you’ve put your time, energy and money into creating. Starting the year off though with a fresh new outlook seemed like a good time to make that happen though. I’m so glad I’ve decided to really do it!

There are just TOO MANY paintings in my house at the moment. While Richard is very supportive, he is a minimalist who hates clutter and there are hundreds of paintings in my house. Currently there are over 60 paintings in my living and dining rooms alone. I feel like a hoarder. A very colorful and eclectic one, but it is still not a title I like to attach to myself.

In downsizing my painting collection, I asked myself the following questions:

Is it my early work?
Is it extremely beautiful/Is it an example of my best work?
Do I connect with it on a deep emotional level?

If I said no to all of these questions, then the painting was chosen for the list. There are paintings on the list that are beautiful. There are others that I really connected to when I created them, but now I am at a different place in my life. I’m thankful for each and every one of them, but feel that it isn’t fair for art to just sit in a closet.

Stop back here tomorrow for another blog post and artsy update. In the meantime, be sure to follow me on Instagram for some sneak peek behind the scenes action!
