Acrylic on Canvas – January 2016
When I was young, my mom used to stress that I needed to behave like a lady, and embody what a lady was and should be. But I didn’t grow up in the era of prim and proper “ladies”. I grew up in the era of power suits! I didn’t want to wear the puritanical ruffled dresses and aprons. I just wanted to tear off the bows, exchange my frilly skirts for osh kosh overalls and get dirty! I still despise tights/pantyhose. But I suppose there is a part of me that knows what it is to behave like a prim and proper “lady” if only so that I can know how and when to be one when I so choose!
