“Maui Snaring the Sun”
Acrylic on Canvas – March 2016
There are a lot of different names for Crepuscular rays or rays of sunshine that meet at one point. The choice for this painting’s name comes from “The Ropes of Maui” a name tied to a Polynesian legend that I first read as a child. Simply put, the Demigod Maui tried to snare the sun to keep it in the sky longer. I thought this was perfect for this painting through because not only is the feel rather tropical for me, but it was also painted during the time when my in-laws were in Hawaii visiting other relatives. All of whom have been VERY supportive of my painting – even to the extent of gifting me supplies!
