Acrylic on Canvas – November 2015
My first time in Florida was during the mid 1990’s. You see, I have an uncle who lives in Daytona Beach, and my family traveled down to visit him and see Disney World. I still have this lasting imprint on my mind of that first impression of Florida. All the brightly colored buildings and even more colorful neon clad people. Brown bodies scantily clad in teeny tiny bathing suits, and warm waves crashing onto the sand, filled with people.. even in January, or was it February? That was a long time ago and I was quite little. I had a grey t-shirt with horses printed on it, a pair of knee length shorts and a brown leather belt covering my pale gangly limbs. And yet, hand in hand my older brother and I went rushing into the water screaming with joy! The waves crashed over my head and my belt was probably ruined but I didn’t care.
My first day at the beach seeing a colorful sailboat took me right back to that time… of big feathered hair, fancy sports cars, and Miami Vice.
