Acrylic on Canvas – April 2015
This painting is actually a realization of a much older sketch I have that I had made years ago before I had even moved to Korea. I was feeling really sad because of life circumstances and was so sad that it was actually really difficult to cry about it. There were a lot of different methods that I resorted to to get through that time and not all of them are things that I’m happy about or proud of – though I wouldn’t be who I am today without having gone through everything that I have. One of these coping mechanisms that was healthy though was drawing or painting my feelings.
The title is one drop, because at the time of the sketch I thought that one lovely drop on a leaf was an artistically beautiful and extremely contained way to express the sadness that I felt. If I allowed more than one drop then I might be drowning in sorrow – but instead it’s just a lovely drop on a green leaf, providing nutrients for the plant to grow.
