“Turtle Season”
Acrylic on Canvas – 2020
48×48 inches / 122×122 cm

In the beginning of 2019, we moved to our 3rd official home together, in the state of Florida. Growing up, going to the beach had always been a special thing for my family and myself. Some of my fondest memories are of walking along the beach with my mom or looking for sand dollars and swimming with rays with my dad. Even in my adult married life, Richard and I have always had great memories of various beaches around the world. So, it was a very significant experiment for me to see what it would be like to live near the water. To walk along the beach early in the morning to see what appears to be tire tracks that is a mama turtle heading back out to the surf. The little yellow flags that pop up out of the sand to notify the humans keep the nests undisturbed. Even enjoying an afternoon by the water and seeing a turtle head bobbing in the distance. A mom just waiting for dusk so she can begin her arduous journey to shore. It’s always magical watching the cycle of life. Here’s to more turtles making it to the water.
