Acrylic on Canvas – January 2017
This is a fun but aggressive painting. I wanted to try some new techniques working with mediums and textures in acrylic painting. It took significantly longer to create which I often have very little patience for, and included a lot of adding paint and then rubbing it away to create the effects that you see. It’s gritty, it isn’t even necessarily pretty, but there is a certain raw energy to it. It’s bold and reminds me of looking at a city from a distance.. seeing it for what it is (and it reminds me a bit of my piece Rage against the machine in both size, colors and subjects. But it’s another step in the process. Like our current world situation, rage is important. It’s great to feel rage at injustice. It’s far better than indifference. But to simply sit by and rage is no longer enough. Our future will change because we take action. It’s a time of resistance.
