Acrylic on Canvas – February 2017

This painting is designed to be simply honest. Something that isn’t seen a lot in my life on camera though it may be obvious in my artwork is just how much I struggle with sadness and depression on a fairly regular basis. Part of why my paintings are so happy and colorful is because I try to paint things that take me to happy places or cheer me up. In this painting though I was just trying to openly paint an emotion that I chose. That emotion was sadness.

A bit of a self-portrait, it’s based upon a quick sketch I did on my ipad years ago when I was feeling, heavy and overwhelmed. Usually I tend to let those emotions out while I’m in the shower as I am a very sensitive and therefore private person when it comes to my emotions. Also, at one point in my life the shower was kind of a “safe space” where I had “some” semblence of privacy. So it’s a good place to cry, to be sad, and start to feel better as the hot water rushes over you. And that’s about all I can say with this painting.. there’s more to it, but I’m not ready to share quite yet.

This artwork is a one of a kind piece hand painted by Stephanie Ishler of Hallyu Back. All artwork is for sale unless otherwise specified. If you are interested in purchasing this original painting, contact us here!
