Superhero final

“Superhero/Bridal Mask” – Acrylic on Canvas. 2013.

Everyone loves superheroes – at least as a kid, and chances are at one point in time or another every person has dreamed that they could become a superhero or masked bandit if you will.  Unfortunately, the chances of actually becoming one in real life, is rare indeed.  However, in immersing ourselves in stories we can become anything we want.  In the Korean drama bridal mask we get to do that again putting ourselves into the vigilante mask.  Knowing what it stands for and both sides of the character fighting pro and against we take up arms and stand firm for independence and the rights of people.

Personally this picture comes as a somewhat macho but nerdy superhero version of myself.  It’s got the faintest hint of purple in the hair – kind of like my own and the mask is blue because frankly growing up that was my favorite color.  The orange background is not as purposeful; I suppose I just found it as a nice compliment to the browns and blues in the masked face.  Why do I envision myself as a masked bandit?  I wish I knew, but often I find myself fighting crime and bad guys in my dreams – typically more of a CIA op instead of a superhero or bandit, but eh they’re both a lot more fun!
