Taegeuk Tree

“Taegeuk Tree”
Acrylic on Canvas – March 2016

This was the first in a good night of painting. I had been feeling quite unbalanced and wanted a painting to kind of help explain my thoughts and emotions and put it all into balance. This painting is what came out of that desire. The Taegeuk is a symbol that you’re probably familiar with – the yin-yang type symbol that is in the center of the Korean flag. One thing I find is that no two paintings I create can and will ever be the same. Likewise any time I try to do a mirror type of image it is different and unique. In this painting I let go of that desire to try to make them the same and just allowed it to be. One is day – one is night. So now the question remains – which way is up?
