Acrylic on Canvas – February 2017
11×14 inches / 29×36 cm
One of the great things about getting away from snowy New York was being able to take in and see some flowers. It was a bit odd I admit seeing “summer” flowers in February but it was also rather lovely. This painting is inspired in part by my painting Gerbera Daisies and also based on lilies I saw in a park in Lima. It was a memorable park because there was an old golden retriever who had decided that on that particularly hot day he was going to keep cool in the park fountain with his only company being passerbys and several older gentlemen who had decided that the park was also where they wanted to spend their afternoon.
This particular flower though has a lot of meaning to me as it was one of my favorites in high school and because of this we had a whole row planted in our backyard. In my current yard I’ve tried to tear up every one that exists because they’re highly toxic to cats and our kittys traverse our entire backyard – but when I think of that moment in time.. high school.. if I had to describe it as a flower it would be this one.
