Although I’m currently watching (and so far LOVING) the New Korean Drama ‘Cheese and the Trap’, one of my first loves of ALL TIME has to be Japanese Dramas. If you’ve been a fan of this channel for any length of time you may already know this 🙂

This new year seems to be launching a new set of Japanese Dramas that are hopeful and full of potential! And yet, this January there are 2 dramas that are really catching my attention as dramas that could really change the impression of jdramaland and create an “awakening” to jdramas if you will. The first of these is Never Let Me Go. A dystopian science fiction based off of a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, it’s the story of a group of young people who grow up in an idealistic setting only to find out that their life is anything but idealistic. They are clones, raised thinking that they were orphans with the sole purpose of being live organ donors to “normal” humans.. Back in 2010, Hollywood made it into a tragically beautiful movie starring Keira Knightly and Carrie Mulligan. While I certainly cried, I loved it and I really look forward to seeing the Jdrama adaption starring Miura Haruma and Ayase Haruka. Especially so, since they are beautiful and exceptionally talented actors who’ve blown me away in the past with their dramatic roles.

The other drama I’m looking forward to is MARS. It’s an amazing manga (that I currently just binge read) and one of my favorite melodramatic dramas of all time. The only version that’s ever been released is a 2004 Taiwanese version starring Barbie Hsu and Vic Zhou – and it was 21 mind blowing episodes. Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to a more updated interpretation of the story – ’cause it’s about time!
