Acrylic on Canvas – March 2017
I had just come back from hanging out with my friend where we taste tested S’more Girl Scout cookies. Maybe that sounds like an odd way to begin a painting description, but I freaking love s’mores. Seriously though, I’m always looking for a new way to explore concepts that I feel I’ve painted many times. One of these concepts is cherry blossoms and spring. I wanted to do a different painting unlike those I’ve already done, but something that was warm and comforting for me. Thinking about hanging out and eating the s’mores made me think of the colors of toasted marshmallow.. which also happens to be similar to the colors of vanilla in milk or coffee with cream. All things which I love very much and give me the warm fuzzies inside. I also worked with some new acrylic medium to give the flowers some texture and create what I feel is a cherry blossom tree that actually looks a bit like some that I saw in Korea when I first moved there. The couple that lined the path on my walk to work weren’t full of flowers, but rather sparsely beautiful.
