“When I realized that was our last cherry blossom date”
Acrylic on Canvas – April 2017

I love painting cherry blossoms and I often include them in my paintings. In part because they were always a symbol of hope for the new year and in Korea for the 5 years we were together during the season I went to see them with Richard. We haven’t “really” seen them since, though we have tried to see a few trees that exist in the area. I was considering going to a nearby cherry blossom festival, but by the time I remembered it, there had been a huge rain storm the night before. Knowing the blossoms, they’d be gone.
I wanted to make a blown up in your face abstract somewhat “melty” version of them using some very brightly colored pink and glow in the dark paints. I ended up making a set because I know that it’s something we both miss, and not just me alone.
