Blue Days – Jung Ju Suh

On dazzling blue days
Let us long for the loved ones.
The autumn flowers have fallen and
The tarnished green is tinted by maples.

What if it snows?
What if the spring returns?
If I die and you live!
If you die and I live!

This dastardly mess is a conglomeration of a lot of emotions based around a time when life was not so pleasant and cold weather trapped us inside while the cold ice and snow blew.

I longed for those I loved to come and rescue, there was little other hope. I was stuck in winter and I didn’t know how to escape from it. But there was nothing to lose. The last 4 stanzas said it all – I chose to see them as opposite pairs. So what if it snows – if I die and you live? I was already dying and almost welcomed it. But what if – just what if spring returns? If you die and I live!

It’s that moment when all around is cold, everything is cold and the life is literally being choked out of you, but through it all the chill becomes white noise – and clarity of mind comes into being and hope of the “what if?” is born.

I’m thankful I found spring.
