Acrylic on Canvas – September 2016
I have been fighting an ongoing inward battle of whether or not to post this. But I feel that it needs to be posted, though it will probably just sit in a corner of my house somewhere for the rest of its existence. There is a war going on around the world. No, I’m not talking about wars in the Middle East, Africa or North Korea… although I’m sure it exists there. I’m talking about the war of autonomy. It’s a war that exists amongst all people, to have the ability to have control over themselves and what is done to their bodies. For me, I have been aware of it from a very young age, although it took until my teens for it to truly affect me.
It’s a war of violence – of egos – of privilege. And those that are hurt in this war carry the scars the rest of their lives. I could write a book. But instead, simply leave it as Yes – means yes. Everything else, means no.
