“Cherry Blossom Date”
Acrylic on Canvas – December 2016
This painting is based on a memory I have of a cherry blossom date that I had with my now husband Richard. We went every year of our time together to go and see the blossoms and walk underneath their branches during the day and also at night. This painting is a reflection of those after dinner walks under the trees blanketed with pink blossoms. They would be lit up by street lamps and spotlights so that they glowed even in the dark.
The one bit of artistic expression I took was the sky. Where we lived there was so much light and dust pollution that you would rarely see stars in the sky and never this many. Typically the sky was a dark purplish rust color on these nights that we would walk to look at the blossoms. I chose to go with a more traditional sky similar to what I saw growing up in the Pennsylvania countryside.
