I love our Maki girl. I think she makes a great subject to paint, as she’s a gorgeous cat and very expressive. This is an adaption of a picture I took of her running about our house shortly after we first moved in. In the actual photo, she was perched on the side of the bathtub, friendly and curious about what that strange big thing was (we didn’t have on in Korea). I remembered thinking I had to paint that expression and the other day when I was thinking about painting I saw the photo and knew that it had to be put onto canvas. I put her in our garden because there’s nothing she loves more than being outside, playing in the grass under a tree. If we weren’t so overprotective and didn’t live in such a busy neighborhood she would likely become a mostly outdoor cat she loves it so much. I love seeing her interact with new things though and her joy and excitement as she discovers new things everyday.
