God’s Country

This is a large painting that I made in response to seeing the most beautiful sunset driving through Pennsylvania on the best day of the summer and perhaps the year. We had stopped at Sheetz to get gas on my way home from my uncle’s house where I had spent the afternoon with my family – visiting and enjoying the pool much like how I had spent many a priviledged summer afternoon in my youth. It was a bittersweet day as we were also celebrating my Nana’s life. But, it felt like the wall between heaven and earth was thin that day and that the heavens were shining down with love. And that love that I feel when I look to the sky is why this painting is titled as it is.
