“Guemosan Winter”
Acrylic on Canvas – December 2016
I’ve been feeling a bit blue this holiday season. I think it’s because I actually miss the holidays in Korea and my friends there. It’s a bit crazy but we’ve been quite busy and haven’t had the huge sense of accomplishment and “I’m going to take a break” like I did at the end of a semester. I feel like I should be so happy but I’m just blue.. and finding it hard to get in the Christmas spirit. I wanted a way to use colors such as blues, reds and greens and a distinctly Korean painting. So this painting is a way to express these feelings in a positive way. I think I captured just a bit of the beauty that is Korea in wintertime. Also I have to admit it’s based in part on some photos I found of Guemosan, a mountain in Gumi (which I’ve driven through and have even stopped at). I think it’s a fun way to “explore Korea” with paintings!
