“Hyperventilating”
Glow in the Dark Acrylic on Canvas – January 2017
This one came about because I was frustrated. Even as an artist and YouTube personality with a platform in which to speak on and address social issues so often I feel like I have no power or say to make any change in the world. This has bothered me ever since I was a little girl who wanted to raise money for kids who were orphaned and injured in war. It leaves me sometimes with anxiety knowing that I can only do what I can and plea with the heavens that others have a similar mindset – because true change starts with individuals but requires a community for it to take effect. In order to paint this glow in the dark neon galaxy type scene (plea to the heavens), I literally almost made myself hyperventilate by painting with a straw. It’s a painting based on the paint going where it so desired and air.. sometimes I feel that’s all my attempts are.. just air.. hot air.
But even “hot air” coming from someone who’s almost having an anxiety attack to bring it about, can create something. The creation of the world that you want to see starts with the decisions that you make and the actions that you take.
