“January”

This was one of my first paintings of the year. I wanted to incorporate some elements that I often paint a lot – mountains, trees, dramatic skies and what might be a body of water with a snowy scene theme. I love how the body of water appears to be frozen and covered with snow. I love how the tree is bare of branches but is absent of snow. I love the swirling pastel sky that isn’t quite a sunrise or sunset and isn’t quite blue but shows the various colors of light. I love that the mountain looks like it’s made of Garnet – the birthstone of January. Most of all, I love that somehow for some reason it reminds me of my sister, born this month and living half a world away and all of our childhood days just playing and enjoying the snow.
