“Liberty”
Abstract Acrylic on Paper, 2013
This painting was created.. by accident. I was actually using the paper that this one was created on to protect the floor as I was painting. When I removed the initial canvas painting though I saw an image through the blobs of color on the paper. And so I let myself think outside the box and my lady “Liberty” was born.
My mind was actually at war when I was making this piece. I have a tendency to place all of my emotions and baggage into my artwork, and this is quite possibly the rawest piece I have ever done. The colors were not planned out, but I worked with what was present. Moreover, it was painted on 2 different sheets of paper at nonconventional angles. I like that you can see the smoke, and debris around her and yet she rises, wearing a patchwork of colors, flags, cultures and ideas.
Say what you will, but I find her hauntingly beautiful.
