“Pheonix”
Acrylic on Canvas. Summer 2014.
I made this one thinking of my moms. My current mother-in-law loves birds. Seriously, there is nothing she loves better than sitting outside with a pair of binoculars and she knows all of the names of all of the types of birds. Maki our Russian Blue is also a fan of bird watching with her. It’s how they bond.
More than my mother-in-law, this painting is dedicated to my mother. She had a very colorful personality, wore jewel tones all of the time, spent her last few years with her hair dyed a bright shade of red, and she had a special spirit.
And mom loved pink! I think I grew to despise the color over the years because she loved it oh so much. It only grew more prevalent as she was diagnosed with breast cancer and more and more pink began popping up. Adding she was a very strong Christian who walked around quoting bible verses. One of her favorites was Isaiah 61:3 and as she was a fan of the old King James Version:
“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”
Mom, I know your spirit has risen up.. until we meet again!
Thus the Pheonix you guys. This one is for those who have risen up out of something difficult.
