“Plum Wine (매실)”

Summertime is my favorite season. And in my 20’s I’ve had many an amazing summer night, especially with traveling and living abroad. I was thinking about some of these favorite nights (especially those drinking) while I was painting and they all blended together to create this beautiful scene. These memories include:
A late night drinking wine and eating fresh tomatoes in a vineyard with my current in-laws and Richard in Tuscany.
Sitting in the piazza in Sienna with a bottle of wine, and watching the locals.
Drinking wine at a long table filled with friends in Spain.
and then I began to think about Korea..
Enjoying time with friends on our front porch watching the sunset.
Sitting outside the GS25 having some plum wine.

I miss that plum wine. I quickly realized that soju was not good to drink but Korean plum wine was sweet, and of a higher quality. The icy cold, with the earthiness of the plums still inside of the bottle. A true infusion. A taste of warmth and friendship that’s timeless.. just in time for summer.
