“Rainbow Palace”
Acrylic on Canvas – December 2017
A symbolic firework painting featuring a traditional Korean Palace to celebrate the New Year. It was made to be the second painting in a series of winter hanok (traditional Korean buildings) the first being titled “New Year“. I spent a lot of time looking at photos of fireworks and various castle style buildings around Korea. This particular castle is in Pohang, Korea. Each year they have a big firework festival and this is based upon several photos taken during the festival. I really wanted to capture the colors and exuberance of the fireworks and the glow of the colors that sparkled on the water. Choosing glow-in-the-dark phosphorescent paint, it takes on another appearance under black light and in the dark. All in all, it’s a really fun painting!
