This is a simple abstract painting that I first saw in my mind while I was watching a rocket launch. Years before I ever moved to Florida, when I was 19, I saw a launch sitting on Cocoa Beach.

I was sitting on the beach with my journal and a pen. I proceeded to sketch the overall scene with rough ink strokes. Years later, there I stood looking up at the clouds. In the sky I saw the white smoke trail of the rocket as it rose up towards the heavens. I considered the clouds, mere water vapor. Tiny prisms that take on the colors of the light. I took to canvas and created a flower unlike any other I’d ever painted. Of dark skechy paint lines and watery cloud like petals. The shade – Pantone’s Rubine Red.
