USuwoncheon in Autumn – Acrylic on Canvas
November 2019, 16×20 inches / 41×51 cm
Inspired by a photograph Richard took one autumn day when we were living in Suwon, South Korea. I believe this was in November of 2014 – a time when I was swamped with trying to complete my Master’s thesis while working part time at a hagwon and making videos/content for Hallyuback. I became so burnt out that month that my body started to shut down and I ended up going to the hospital. Shortly after that I began forcing myself to take breaks and Richard would make me go on walks with him along the river near our house. This was an activity we did often when we first started dating and we were enveloped in life and work. It’s easy to lose sight of the little things that we used to appreciate in life, the world around us and the people we are close to. Until they’re no longer there – and you’re left painting a memory.
