A new month is almost here, and Korea looks to be producing another group of good-looking dramas, including 2 that are Japanese remakes! Speaking of which, they have some tentative casting done for Liar Game, including Lee Sang Yoon, Kim So Eun, and Shin Sung Rok. Of course, that all may change with time. And, in case you didn’t know, it’s only gonna be ten episodes so.. easy to watch!
Naildo Cantabile (which is the Korean renamed version of Nodame Cantabile) looks like it’s gonna be the next big hit! I might be jumping to conclusions on that one, but I’m willing to take that risk. It stars Joo Won who’s star power continues to increase with each drama he stars in, because damn that kid can act. Yoona was initially in the line-up for Naildo, but thank goodness she backed out. And their first choice, Shim Eun Kyung agreed to take it on. This is one of those dramas that requires strong acting ability so hopefully she can bring it. If you’re a fan of classical music, then I DEFINITELY recommend that you check it out. That being said, if you’re NOT a fan of classical music, don’t immediately write this one off until you give it a shot. It reinvents classical music in a fun, playful manner that you’re probably not expecting….. unless you’ve already seen the Japanese version.
The one that Richard has affectionately dubbed ‘The Underdog’ is Modern Farmer. Personally I think that this one could actually be a break out hit even though I’ve been promoting and playing up the other two because it has a sort of all star flower boy cast. You have some famous people. There not super famous, but they’re famous enough and good looking and they’re singing and…. I guess they’re gonna be farming in this one too? I make a joke about hoeing, but then I’d kick myself. It’s late.
Korea does seem to be attempting to raise the bar on the quality of dramas it continues to produce, and this can only benefit us Korean drama lovers in the long run. I remembering looking back on the year and thinking ‘How is Korea going to EVER live up to ‘You Who Came From The Stars’? And while maybe there have been no dramas that can truly compete with that dramas, it hasn’t been a bad year for drama watching at all. In fact, it may be my favorite year of drama watching to date.
And that my dear friends is saying a lot.
Happy Drama Watching. ☺
