“With the Tide”
Acrylic on Canvas – November 2016
The title for this painting not only reflects the image itself for me but also the process of creating it. You see, for me more than the end product, it’s the process that absorbs me for hours and is what really makes a painting or not. The end product is just that.. an end product, a reminder. I painted this one largely with palate knife.. just to see if I could. The waves are reflecting what I saw at the beach, which was waves that weren’t parallel to the beach but came in at an angle. The sky so far has been generally clear with some wispy clouds.. and the waves have been minor (though present) with the ones nearer to shore starting to crash.. but they’re still little and when you’re in the water you’re looking down on them.
I am so happy with how this turned out – It was not an easy painting to create but there was a point where I just let go of my desire for it to be a great painting and just let it flow and then it really came into being.
