Hotel King is one of the more highly anticipated dramas of 2014, and was the one that was suppose to follow up You Who Came From The Stars. It features Lee Da Hye and Lee Dong Wook reuniting for the first time on the small screen since 2005’s ‘My Girl’, which is one of the more beloved dramas in the history of Korean dramas. I even watched it early on in my drama-watching career and thought they were awesome together.

Back when I first starting watching Korean dramas, these two were one of my favorite couples after Yoon Eun Hye and Gong Yoo in Coffee Prince.

I’ve also been anticipating this drama, so obviously I’ve been wanting to see the first couple of episodes and make a review/give my thoughts on it.

But then I watched the first episode and I was not only disappointed, but I was a bit outraged. Like it or not, people take stereotypes and situations they see on TV and relate them to real life scenarios. For example, when I was in Italy, I had a friend come up and ask if real life in the USA was like ‘Sex in the City’. Which, of course for most people it is not. So, for instance with episode 1, I was saddened by the opening scene. It was playing on so many bad, unrealistic stereotypes of black people that it was just done in really poor taste. They also suggested that anyone who is a reporter should be able to speak French and other things as well. It was also really for me disheartening to see them together again with having had so much plastic surgery, as if they are trying to compete with the younger actors and actresses that are coming up. Lee Da Hye could not move her face for the life of her. It was actually distracting if you start to notice it.

In other words, what I saw in the first two episodes I was less than impressed with. It’s just a shame seeing such high quality actors and actresses in dramas that I think are below par. This one could turn around, I’ve been known to be wrong before. But at two episodes in, unless I hear wild, rave reviews from you guyz, I’m dropping it.

Have you seen any of this drama? If so, what did you think of it so far? Drop me a not in the comments! I’d love to hear your take on this one as well. ☺
