Korean Coastal Village
“Korean Coastal Village”
Acrylic on Canvas – March 2017

This painting is based on a photo that I took from a romantic “getaway” that I took with Richard back when we lived in Korea. Growing up in the countryside, it wasn’t always easy to be constantly surrounded by skyscrapers, and the bustle and noise of the city. I longed for grass, nature and quiet. In order to make me happy and try to achieve that, we’d often hop into one of our cars and take a roadtrip out to some place we pointed to on the map. Usually it was near a national park or the sea since Korea is a peninsula. This particular getaway was memorable as we decided to take a couple of days to drive up the eastern coast of Korea. Partway up we found a lovely hotel. The next morning I stood in the window and took a photo that I’ve always loved that to me sums up some of the local feel along the Korean coastline. This painting is based on that photo.
