Aztec Sunset

Richard named this one, so if you don’t like the name – blame him! All jokes aside, this piece is a marriage of an older style and technique that I used to use often and my knowledge that I have acquired over the years of how paint behaves and interacts. I almost dye the canvas with the paint and then the image is revealed when it is scraped off. I then add in details with more paint. The final element of sand is created using what was discarded throughout the process. As humans we should be preserving our world and reducing waste as we can. Acrylic painting isn’t the healthiest for the environment. But, with this technique I get what I consider a lovely image and everything is reused – nothing goes to waste.
