Color Pop

“Color Pop”
Acrylic on Canvas – February 2017
12×24 inches / 30×61 cm

Painting this I was feeling frustrated at our current culture. I often do feel frustrated with our current world situation, and while I do have a platform with which to speak from (that I am thankful for everyday – you all are such a huge part of my life.. you don’t even know) I still feel really limited. This can be frustrating. I feel like I am trying to be positive and colorful and share the love of pop-culture. But sometimes I feel like we’re all just playing in the face of impending doom. Which of course, we kind of all are – and regardless of everything, any of us could die at any moment.. so. Wow, this is such a morbid painting lol!

So, it’s a colorful play on a rainbow city (idealism) that’s in glamorous celebration not realizing the impending doom that might be played out in the sky as the zepplin overhead nears the fireworks. Because as history has shown us with the Hindenberg, when you have a zepplin filled with flammable gas and it nears a flame you basically just have a giant bomb in the sky. Will the parachuting people be saved?
