“Dancer in Motion”
Acrylic on Canvas – May 2021
24×20 inches / 61×51 cm

This canvas was a process of a lot of layers and feels. I use art as a form of meditative therapy, and sometimes things can look rather messy or ugly before the real beauty emerges. Much like life, it is in that way. This was a path of adolescence, of hopes and dreams. Of hurt and anger. Of feeling like I’m not good enough. That the standards are too high and I will never amount to the expectations placed upon me. And I thought of the one person who was with me through it all. My baby sister. I tried to protect her from so much of my ugly. She saw a lot and didn’t actually judge me all that harshly, though she did her best not to follow in my missteps. I know her life isn’t easy and I don’t always agree with the path she’s decided to take. But halfway around the world, I hope that she remembers how to dance. To embrace the feeling and let take and move her, even as she’s overwhelmed by the responsibilities on her plate.
