elephant exuberance

Elephant Exuberance
Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas – 2018

For the past two years during the month of May I painted an elephant for St. Jude PlayLIVE.  Last year’s was actually sold during the event and a portion of the profits went towards helping the kids at St. Jude. I wanted this year’s elephant to showcase the skillset that I had learned over the year and really show what I was capable of. I believe that it did in fact do that. The young elephant is exuberantly spraying its joy. I love this little one.

The elephant is a symbol of one of the houses where families stay while their children receive treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Talking about the tremendous work that they do there and the organization makes me want to cry. I dream of a world where all kids regardless of financial status or ethnicity can receive the treatments and care that those kids do at that hospital. I’m angry that it’s necessary to fundraise and beg for small amounts of money so that kids can live while millions of dollars are spent in politics and padding the pockets of the already wealthy. But the appreciation I have for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital overflows.
