Photosynthesis

“Photosynthesis”
Abstract Acrylic – May 2015

I wouldn’t call myself a hippie, but there is something beautiful and truly magical about a tree. It’s a physical manifestation of a greater power. Those in our yard for example, have the ability to adjust to and withstand extreme temperatures. They are immense and can live much longer than we can as humans. They sustain multiple lives as many have animals that make their homes there and we enjoy their beauty and shade. They are also quite literally a source of energy with firewood. I recently discovered that our area of New York is known not only for apple trees, but maple trees from which syrup is made. And yet, they have an intricate beauty that I can’t even begin to paint (as I sit here and look out the window at our pine and it’s thousands upon thousands of needles) As a kid my mom used to yell at me for climbing them. 20 years later and I still cannot get over that magnificence that is a tree.

This painting was created to convey some of the energy, phases or seasons, and that which nourishes a tree. Somewhat like a life-cycle. I love this painting!
