Okay, so it’s a brand new year, and with that comes a brand new set of Korean Dramas, right? Well, at least that’s what Wikipedia is telling me. And Soompi. And others. I’m addicted.
5. A Hundred Years Legacy
This was originally called ‘Third Generation Noodle House’. I’m a big fan of Eugene. I think she’s a great actress. She’s not over the top, and she’s definitely made the switch over from Kpop singer to talented actress. That’s what I’m talking about, Kdramas baby. She was a part of Kpop’s first successful female group ‘SES’. I haven’t seen this one yet but I’m thinking that will change sooner than later.
4. Queen of Ambition
This one could not be more perfectly timed! A woman who was once a poor lady is now President of Korea. The only difference I see between this and real life is the poverty aspect, because Park Geun Hye (the current president) has never been poor. From what I can tell by looking at the pre-release photos of the teaser this one looks like its gonna be fun!
There’s another Flower Boy drama on the blocks from TvN! This is there 3rd following ‘Flower Boy Noodle Shop’, and ‘Shut Up Flower Boy Band.’ Overall I liked this one but it lacked a lot of the oomph that Shut Up Flower Boy Band. Some other things: this one was geared more towards twenty or thirty-somethings, but the romance in it seemed a bit pre-ttenish to me, so their target audience and the result of the drama didn’t seem to correlate to me. One thing I really liked was that they had an ongoing online comic book and this one was loosely based off of one, but they managed to incorporate it into the series. Watching it I kinda wanted to read the comic more than actually watch the drama. It was supposed to be based on the story of Rapunzel, but there’s no wicked witch, and I’ve never met a Rapunzel with such short hair.. and I’m a master of Rapunzel. I even played her part for a musical in high school, but don’t share that with anyone.
2. Iris 2
Though not exactly my favorite genre of drama, Iris 2 is proving (at least to me) to be a great addition to the Korean drama collection in 2013. The original Iris was sexy and action-packed and if that is your sort of drama then I’m think you’re going to like Iris 2 as well. There have been some changes to the cast of Iris 2 however, and Lee Byung Hun & Kim Tae Hee are not going to be in it. That’s too bad, but I believe it’s not going to make that much of a difference since I liked Episode 1 enough overlook all of that! The opening scene in with the car chase and the money flying everywhere after the car flips sets up the rest of episode 1 nicely.
1. That Winter, the Wind Blows
Since I wrote this after seeing AND reviewing the first episode of this drama, all I can say is WOW!!!!! SBS has been planning this for awhile and promoting it by proclaiming that it’s the ‘return of Song Hye Kyo!’ Well.. it is now, isn’t it? Jo In Sung is handsome shmansome in this one and draws you in quickly. Song Hye Gyo plays a blind girl who is believable as being blind in my opinion, and is also the daughter of a very rich and dying Chaebol owner. Plus Kim Bum is in this one too, and what else more could you possibly want besides a well written plot?
Here is the Blooper Reel which has seen its fair share of attention. ☺
